Official Guinness World Record Attempt: Longest Interviewing Marathon
Global Student
Entrepreneurship
Week 2024
OCTOBER 28-31
King Solomon's Height, 26 Mango Street, Accra
The Global Student Entrepreneurship Week is a growth-focused startup event with students, budding entrepreneurs, and early career professionals learning from investors and entrepreneurs from Africa, Silicon Valley, the U.K., and beyond. Over 6,000 entrepreneurs joined the blended fourth edition themed "The Next Frontier of Innovation and Leadership."
I'm using this 5th edition to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Interviewing Marathon, spotlighting our ReadyforWork digital career accelerator, a workforce readiness solution that helps Africa's young geniuses unlock their potential -- which we launched at GSEW 21.
Integrating Africa's Youth Into The Global Workforce
Estimates indicate that only about 10% of university graduates in Ghana secure employment within their first year after graduation. For most graduates, finding meaningful work can take up to a decade, according to ISSER. This challenge extends beyond Ghana, as youth unemployment across Africa has been described as an economic crisis. Hence, I established ReadyforWork to bridge the gap and unlock the potential of these young people.
I am leveraging this year's Student Entrepreneurship Week to attempt a Guinness World Record-breaking interview marathon of 96 HOURS. I've obtained all necessary approvals from the GWR team. My goal is to mobilize tuition scholarships for 100 young Africans, aged 16 to 35, kickstarting their careers through ReadyforWork. The event was a great and successful experience, it gave students the chance to interact and seek advice from real entrepreneurs, businesses, and support agencies. "The idea to start Jungle Online had been with me for some years but I kept making excuses. I kept telling myself, “It requires too much money, ” and wondered, “How will I raise money?” After participating in Student Entrepreneurship Week Ghana, I decided it was time to stop making excuses. I was going to do it, regardless. I had no money at the time, so I sold a few belongings to raise the initial capital. Today, Jungle Online is in operation."
Emmanuel Yaw Acquah
Student Entrepreneur, Ghana
"Participating in Student Entrepreneurship Week Ghana was a great beginning for us. We came second in the pitch competition and part of our prize was a hands-on training with Workshed. The feedback, business guidance, and all opportunities given to us by SFAN and Workshed helped us a lot to rethink and shape our business. Incidentally, we received an invitation to participate in F8 by Facebook, the only team from Ghana with such an invite."
